Nilsen´s artistic contribution to Art Pro Ibsen 2006 deals with one of the plays in which Ibsen addresses one of society´s fundamental institutions: marriage. The Lady from the Sea ends with a couple finding their way back to each other, in mutual respect and understanding, after having gone through the most trying ordeals. Nilsen lets the action of the pictures take place entirely in the water. The figures in the paintings are naked. These are psychological dramas with strong sexual undertones - an utterly new and original approach to scenography. Water can be perceived as an image of a mind that is without clear borders, and its thus able to constantly change its shape and to avoid being forced into any particular categories or concepts.
